2020 Vision: Designing Work, Life & Play

November 14-15, 2013. Bellagio Ballroom, Las Vegas.

Invest in You

What will the world look like in 2020?

Technologists dream big, but how will these transformative ideas actually impact day-to-day life in the not too distant future?

That’s the idea we’re unpacking at Women 2.0 Conference 2013 Las Vegas; a must-attend conference for investors, entrepreneurs, engineers, and designers focused on exploring up-and-coming trends in innovation (open to men and women, of course!). We’re taking the stuff of science fiction and inviting it into our offices and living rooms. In-room childcare is available to all attendees.

Focused on exploring up-and-coming trends in innovation and hosted at the fabulous Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, the event will feature founders and investors exploring their visions for the future of work, life and play:

  • In the past decade, nearly every industry has been disrupted by technology. Will the term ”tech company” become obsolete in this new, ubiquitously digital era?

  • What are the possibilities when our gadgets and our outfits merge?

  • How can we leverage technology to have a larger impact on the social good than ever before?

  • What will ‘work’ be like when, thanks to constant connectivity, it’s no longer a place we go?

  • Even our love lives aren’t innovation-proof: How will we date at the end of the decade?

At Women 2.0 we believe that cutting-edge technology isn’t just for the select few, nor is it a dream to defer into the distant future. We’re dedicated to bridging the gap between the latest breakthroughs and and the realities of our diverse lives, empowering change, improving lives and — hey, it’s Vegas! — having more fun.

Special Guest: Zappos & Downtown Project: A City as A Startup

Tony Hsieh CEO, Zappos

Culture is to a company as community is to a city: it’s about values, innovation, serendipity, participation, upward mobility, and attraction of smart startups and the creative class. Tony is applying his very successful Zappos corporate culture model (recognized multiple times by FORTUNE as one of the top 100 best places to work) to help build the most community-focused large city in the world in the place you would least expect it: Downtown Las Vegas. Research has shown that every time the size of a city doubles, productivity and innovation per resident increases by 15%, but when companies get bigger, productivity per employee generally goes down. With his new $350 million Downtown Project, Tony is creating a unique hybrid of corporation, community, and city to drive productivity and innovation both for Zappos as well as the city itself.

Fashion Show & Live Concert

Get a sneak peek into the future with our wild Wearables Fashion Show. As mobile technologies transition into wearables (think, Google Glass), what innovative ways will the fashion industry collaborate with technology?

You don’t have to look far to find the answer. Our fashion show highlights creative designers who have integrated technologies into futuristic garments like:

  • - A jacket that allows musicians to control and create music through sensors and body movements (Machina)
  • - Couture dresses whose fabrics are created through the analysis of the usage and context of hate speech on the internet (Hate Couture)
  • - A sweater that changes color based on your mood (SENSOREE)
  • - An “invisible helmet” that inflates upon impact (Hovding)

To top it all off, we have Congo Sanchez, famed drummer for Thievery Corporation playing an intimate DJ set to set the scene for these interactive presentations. Read on to learn more about our fashion show participants, and check back often for updates!

MACHINA

MACHINA is a wearable technology brand that merges fashion and technology in a practical and visually appealing way. We are creating a world where wearable technology is no longer a novelty item. MACHINA uses the existing culture around cutting – edge technology to create a menswear fashion brand with wearable technology.

Hate Couture

“Hate couture” is a series of high-fashion garments created through analysis of the usage and context of hate speech on the internet.

Language is a key device used to ostracize and dehumanize groups of people based on criteria that are largely unchangeable: race, gender, sexuality, religion. in real life, the use of hate speech is a universal taboo. but how much attention do we really pay to it online, where everything we say is divorced from traditional social consequences?  “hate couture” is an attempt to examine the use of hateful language on the internet.

Hövding

Hövding is a revolutionary bicycle helmet, a new innovation designed for the modern cyclist. Not only one of the safest helmets on the market, but also a discrete chameleon that easily becomes part of your outfit using the changeable shell.

Unlike other cycle helmets, Hövding is worn as a collar around your neck. The collar contains an airbag that will inflate and protect the head in the event of an accident. Compared to ordinary cycle helmets, Hövding provides the best shock absorption in the world.
